The Planet in Focus Industry Series returns this year on October 11-12 at the TIFF Bell Lightbox, featuring the Green Pitch competition. In the weeks to come, watch for announcements here about this year’s panels, workshops, masterclasses and networking events. In the meantime, take note of the following funding deadlines and calls for entries to help you finance your environmental film:
Foundation to Assist Canadian Talent, Bravo!FACT, Toronto
Deadline: June 8, 2012
Founded in 1995, Bravo!FACT (Foundation to Assist Canadian Talent) has distributed tens of millions of dollars in grants to Canadians for the production of short-term projects. Many of the resulting works have been honoured with industry awards throughout the world. Carrying on that tradition, Bravo!FACT continues to provide funding to independent Canadian producers, who seek, primarily (but not exclusively), to create contemporary dramatic works for television.

All Roads SeedGrant (Washington, DC)
Deadline: June 15, 2012
The National Geographic All Roads Film Project supports and showcases breakthrough film and photography from indigenous and underrepresented minority cultures around the globe. Grant award notifications are approximately six weeks later.

BAVC – PRODUCERS INSTITUTE FOR NEW MEDIA TECHNOLOGIES
Deadline: Early: June 15 (5:00pm PST on Friday, no application fee for BAVC members, $40 application fee for all others)
Late: July 6 (5:00pm PST Friday, $40 fee for BAVC members, $80 fee for all others)
The Producers Institute for New Media Technologies, launched by BAVC in 2007, is a week-long social impact laboratory that connects the world’s best social issue documentary filmmakers and partner nonprofit organizations with leading technologists and mentors to develop transmedia tools and story assets to advance shared social change agendas. Through a competitive application process, BAVC will engage media partners to select six of the world’s most promising and important social issue documentary projects for Producers Institute 2012. Selection will focus on documentary films and transmedia projects that have the greatest potential to catalyze action around contemporary social justice issues, with an emphasis on projects that highlight themes of economic justice, educational opportunity and human rights. Filmmakers will apply with partner organizations that already work with the communities they mutually seek to reach, educate, inspire and move to action.

Planet in Focus Green Screen Award, Toronto
Deadline: August 20, 2012
The Planet in Focus Green Screen Award sponsored by Astral’s Harold Greenberg Fund will celebrate compelling and innovative behind-the-scene stories of green practices in the film and television industry. The producer and/or the director of the production with the most inspiring story will receive a cash award in the amount of $5,000 and the runner up $1,000.
