Janice has been involved in the conception, creation and production of scores of documentary and television programs. She has worked as both a producer and broadcaster, commissioning for the CBC, History Television, The Food Network and HGTV. She was the series producer of the celebrity show Who Do You Think You Are? (CBC), To Build A Nation (History Television) and D Day to Victory (C4, History Television). She produced the theatrical feature documentary Force of Nature: The David Suzuki Movie, winner of the People’s Choice Documentary Award at the 2010 Toronto International Film Festival. Previously, Janice was VP of Documentary Development and Production for Barna-Alper Productions and a programmer at Hot Docs.
Liz Marshall is an auteur film director who fuses cinematic storytelling with social and environmental justice issues. Her most recent film is Water On The Table (2010), an award-winning (winner of the Best International Feature Film at the 11th Annual Planet in Focus Environmental Film Festival) and Gemini-nominated documentary featuring Maude Barlow’s crusade to have water declared a human right. Liz is currently working on The Ghosts in Our Machine, a cross-platform documentary that seeks to uncover the dark recesses of our anthropocentric society to illuminate the lives of individual animals used for human profit and consumption.
A nerd fascinated by fantasy, science and connectivity in the universe, Powys tries to see the world with fresh eyes and childlike wonder. He grew up on three small islands, including The Nature Island, but never considered environmental impact until his high school World Issues teacher scared the pants off of him. An award-winning director and photojournalist whose work is seen in many countries, he was chosen by the Canadian Government and Cirque du Soleil to represent Canada to 73 million people at 2010 WORLD EXPO in Shanghai, China. He was also a member of the Regent Park Film Festival 2010 and 2011 juries
