This year’s networking session provides even more opportunities for filmmakers to pitch their program ideas and projects to top funders, film organizations, distributors, and broadcasters.
This year’s top decision-makers include: Bell Broadcast and New Media Fund, CBC, Doc Channel, Kickstarter, OMDC, SiEntertainment, Super Channel, and Telefilm (see bios at the bottom of this page).
Programming execs, each at their own table, will take individual one-on-one, 10-12 minute pitches. Slots are limited, and are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Examine the ins and outs of this interactive trilingual (English, French, German) documentary game facing Fort McMurray, Alberta – the largest energy project on the planet. This session is also open to the public for ticket purchase.
3:30 PM – 4:30 PM: Master Class with John Walker
Moderated by Geoff Pevere, Presented by Telefilm Canada
In this intimate conversation with author and journalist Geoff Pevere, award-winning director John Walker presents his views on the documentary genre, its future, and why it’s important for filmmakers to continue to tackle the controversial and difficult subjects.

MELISSA AMER, Deputy Director, English Market, CMF Program Administrator TELEFILM CANADA
Melissa Amer is Deputy Director, English Market, CMF Program Administrator based out of Telefilm Canada’s Toronto office. The CMF delivers $371M in funding annually to support the Canadian television and digital media industries. Projects are supported through either the ‘Convergent Stream’ which supports the creation of innovative, convergent television and digital media content, or the ‘Experimental Stream’ which encourages the development of leading edge, interactive digital media content and software applications.
SOLANGE ATTWOOD, VP, International Sales & Development – SI ENTERTAINMENT
Over the course of her career in television distribution, development and production, she has had the chance to work in a variety of different capacities. Solange joined Si Entertainment in 2010 to head up development and launch the company’s distribution arm. Having worked with countless networks in the international marketplace, her focus is on scripted, factual, lifestyle and documentaries series and specials that appeal to Canadians and beyond. Prior to joining Si, Solange was the Manager, International Sales & Acquisitions at Tricon Films & Television.
MARCIA DOUGLAS, Program Manager – BELL BROADCAST AND NEW MEDIA FUND
As Program Manager for the Bell Broadcast and New Media Fund, Marcia oversees the Fund’s investment in various Canadian television programs and their associated digital media projects. She is an assistant director member of the Directors Guild of Canada, and has produced several award-winning short films and the theatrical feature SIBLINGS. She completed a post-graduate in Children’s Media through Centennial College and worked at Corus Entertainment in original programming.
MARTIN HARBURY Consultant, Industry Initiatives (Film and TV) – ONTARIO MEDIA DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION (OMDC)
As a consultant for the OMDC, Martin develops and administers programs for film and television, including the OMDC Film Fund and the Export Fund. He is an author, director, executive producer, producer and broadcast executive, and has won many film and TV awards including two Gemini Awards and a Genie Award. He was a founder of the television branch of the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television and served on their Board. He is currently a board member of the Actors’ Fund of Canada he teaches at Ryerson University and authored the book “The Last of the Wild Horses”.
ELISABETH HOLM, Film Program Director – KICKSTARTER
As Film Program Director, Elisabeth Holm oversees Kickstarter’s filmmaker education, outreach, events, and editorial. In addition to her work at Kickstarter she is currently in post-production on Gillian Robespierre’s feature comedy OBVIOUS CHILD starring Jenny Slate, Gaby Hoffmann, and David Cross. Most recently she produced Keith Miller’s 2012 Slamdance and FIPRESCI Jury Prize-winning WELCOME TO PINE HILL (Oscilloscope) and was the Associate Producer of Joe Berlinger and Bruce Sinofsky’s Oscar-nominated PARADISE LOST 3 (HBO). She lives and works in New York City.
LEA MARIN, Producer – NATIONAL FILM BOARD OF CANADA
Producer Lea Marin’s film credits include a wide range of short dramatic films, documentary series and features that have screened at international festivals and on television, including: the documentary-musical MY PRAIRIE HOME, THE PORTRAIT, directed by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Hubert Davis; the interactive documentary co-production THE NEXT DAY; and Astra Taylor’s EXAMINED LIFE.
MARGUERITE PIGOTT, Head of Creative Development – SUPER CHANNEL
As Head of Creative Development for Super Channel, Marguerite handles the pre-licensing of original Canadian feature films, documentaries and series for the network and directs a cross-country team of development executives to invest Super Channel’s Creative Development Fund. Previously, Marguerite programmed the Canadian feature film selection for the Toronto International Film Festival, and was Vice President of Development and Production at Alliance Atlantis.
CAROLINE UNDERWOOD, Senior Producer – CBC’s SCIENCE AND NATURAL HISTORY UNIT
Caroline Underwood has also produced, directed and written more than twenty-five of her own award-winning documentaries for THE NATURE OF THINGS and independent production companies. The focus of her work has been the natural world and she has travelled to many remote locations, and she and her team were one of the first to take HD cameras to the Arctic to document the impact of climate change on wildlife on the ice and underwater for the Gemini Award winner, LORDS OF THE ARCTIC, (an international co-production). She has also produced the popular documentary UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL: THE ECOLOGY OF DAVID SUZUKI, SUZUKI DIARIES: COASTAL CANADA, WALKING WITH GHOSTS and the three-part series ANTARCTIC MISSION. She is a founding member and past president of the international organization, Filmmakers for Conservation.
